Pond Liners
Ponds are small bodies of water that are able to offer beauty and a sense of calmness to its
surroundings, whether they are in small private gardens or in large concrete constructions. Even the ancient Chinese, Egyptians and Romans have
used ponds as an attractive decoration in their gardens.
One of the things that you have to make sure is done when you build a pond is laying a pond liner. This project is comparable to the
laying of the foundations of buildings. A natural pond or lake has rock, silt and dirt on its bottom. Putting in a liner would be able
to help in preventing the penetration of pond water by the soil, which could make it silty.
They are available in two types: preformed and flexible or custom-made. Preformed liners work better for the smaller garden ponds, while
flexible liners are more suitable for the medium-sized ponds.
Installing preformed liners would require you to create a hole, which fits the pond’s space, while
installing flexible liners would require you to check if there would be any sharp objects that could penetrate the liner.
Preformed liners, which are made from plastic, are very durable and are not likely to have leaks. They
can be a bit hard to fit, because of their varying depth sizes and shapes. The ponds that commonly make use of preformed pond liners are
expensive, with more costly delivery charges.
The flexible liners would include the rubber products such as EPDM rubber, butyl rubber and clay or sodium bentonyte clay. Polyethylene, Ultra
Guard and PVC are some examples of the synthetic plastics that are used for these.
The main advantage of the flexible liner over the preformed ones is the fact that they can easily be transported. Flexible liners do
not have size or shape limitations. The material could just be molded into the shape of your chosen pond. Adjustments can be made easily. There
is a wide variety of available materials that could suit whatever your needs are. The pond would have a natural appearance that seems to blend
with the landscape.
Tough and durable liners are available for even less than a dollar for a square foot. They are UV protected and come in different colors as
well. Ultimately, when you are selecting a pond liner to fit your needs, you would still need to consider several factors to make sure that you
will be getting your money’s worth.
